Watership Down av Richard Adams
Utgiven: 1976
Avsnitt: 1x05. "White Rabbit", 1x08. "Confidence Man"
Baksidetext: "One of the most beloved novels of our time, Richard Adam's WATERSHOP DOWN takes us to a world we have never truly seen: to rhe remarkable life that teems in the fields, forests and riverbanks far beyond our cities and towns. It is a powerful saga of courage, leadership and survival; an epic tale of a hardy band of adventurers forced to flee the destruction of their fragile community... and their trials and triumphs in the face of extra ordinary adversity as they pursue a glorious dream called 'home'.

A Wrinkle in Time av Madeleine L'Engle
Utgiven: 1962
Avsnitt: 1x18. "Numbers"
Baksidetext: "It was a dark and stormy night. Meg Murry; her small brother, Charles Wallace; and their mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger. "Wild nights are my glory", the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I'll be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract." A tesseract (in case you didn't know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would spoil your enjoyment of Madeleine L'Engle's unusual book."

The Turn of The Screw av Henry James
Utgiven: 1898
Avsnitt: 2x03. "Orientation"
Information / Scen: "Orienterings"-filmen låg gömd bakom boken nere i "luckan".
Baksidetext: "Widely recongnized as one of literature's most gripping ghost stories, this classic tale of moral degradation concerns the sinister transformation of two innocent children into flagrant liars and hypocrites. The story begins when a governess arrives at an English country estate to look after Miles, aged ten, and Flora, eight. At first, everything appears normal but then events gradually begin to weave a spell of psychological terror.
One night a ghost appears before the governess. It is the dead lover of Miss Jessel, the former governess. later, the ghost of Miss Jessel herself appears before the governess and the little girl. Moreover, both governess and the housekeeper suspect that the two spirits have appeared to the boy in private. The children, however, adamantly refuse to acknowledge the presence of the two spirits, in spite of indications that there is some sort of evil communication going on between the children and the ghosts.
Without resorting to clattering chains, demonic noises and other melodramatic techniques, this elgently told tale succeeds in creating an atmosphere of tingling suspense and unspoken horror matched by few other books in the grenre. Kown for his probing psychological novels dealing at the occult - and created a masterpiece of the supernatural that has frightened and delighted readers for nearly a century."

The Third Policeman av Flann O'Brien
Utgiven: 1967
Avsnitt: 2x03. "Orientation"
Baksidetext: "The Third Policeman is Flann O'Brien's brilliant comic novel about the nature of time, death and existence. Told by a narrator who has committed a botched robbery and brutal murder, the novel follows him and his adventures in a two-dimensional police station where, through the theories of the scientist/philosopher de Selby, he is introduced to 'Atomic Theory' and its relation to bicycles, the existence of eternity (which turns out to be just down the road), and de Selby's view that the earth is not round but 'sausage-shaped'. With the help of his newly found soul named 'Joe' he grapples with the riddles and condradictions that three eccentric policeman present to him."

An Occurrence of Owl Creek Bridge av Ambrose Bierce
Utgiven: 1967
Avsnitt: 2x13. "The Long Con"

Utgiven: 1974
Avsnitt: 3x01. "A Tale of Two Cities" och 3x07. "Not in Portland"
Baksidetext: "Why read Carrie? Stephen King himself has said that he finds his early work "raw," and Brian De Palma's movie was so successful that we feel like we have read the novel even if we never have. The simple answer is that this is a very scary story, one that works as well--if not better--on the page as on the screen. Carrie White, menaced by bullies at school and her religious nut of a mother at home, gradually discovers that she has telekinetic powers, powers that will eventually be turned on her tormentors. King has a way of getting under the skin of his readers by creating an utterly believable world that throbs with menace before finally exploding. He builds the tension in this early work by piecing together extracts from newspaper reports, journals, and scientific papers, as well as more traditional first- and third-person narrative in order to reveal what lurks beneath the surface of Chamberlain, Maine."

A Brief History of Time av Stephen Hawking
Utgiven: 1988
Avsnitt: 3x07. "Not in Portland"
Baksidetext: "Stephen Hawking, one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists in history, wrote the modern classic A Brief History of Time to help nonscientists understand the questions being asked by scientists today: Where did the universe come from? How and why did it begin? Will it come to an end, and if so, how? Hawking attempts to reveal these questions (and where we're looking for answers) using a minimum of technical jargon. Among the topics gracefully covered are gravity, black holes, the Big Bang, the nature of time, and physicists' search for a grand unifying theory. This is deep science; these concepts are so vast (or so tiny) as to cause vertigo while reading, and one can't help but marvel at Hawking's ability to synthesize this difficult subject for people not used to thinking about things like alternate dimensions. The journey is certainly worth taking, for, as Hawking says, the reward of understanding the universe may be a glimpse of "the mind of God." "

Laughter in the Dark av Vladimir Nabokov och John Banville.
Utgiven: 1932
Avsnitt: 3x08. "Flashes Before Your Eyes"
Baksidetext: "Once upon a time there lived in Berlin, Germany, a man called Albinus. He was rich, respectable, happy; one day he abandoned his wife for the sake of a youthful mistress; he loved; was not loved; and his life ended in disaster." Thus begins Vladimir Nabokov's Laughter in the Dark; and this, the author tells us, is the whole story—except that he starts from here, with his characteristic dazzling skill and irony, and brilliantly turns a fable into a chilling, original novel of folly and destruction. Amidst a Weimar-era milieu of silent film stars, artists, and aspirants, Nabokov creates a merciless masterpiece as Albinus, an aging critic, falls prey to his own desires, to his teenage mistress, and to Axel Rex, the scheming rival for her affections who finds his greatest joy in the downfall of others."

Fountain Head av Ayn Rand
Utgiven: 1943
Avsnitt: 3x12. "Par Avion"
Information / Scen: Sawyer läser boken utanför sitt tält.
Baksidetext: "The Fountainhead has become an enduring piece of literature, more popular now than when published in 1943. On the surface, it is a story of one man, Howard Roark, and his struggles as an architect in the face of a successful rival, Peter Keating, and a newspaper columnist, Ellsworth Toohey. But the book addresses a number of universal themes: the strength of the individual, the tug between good and evil, the threat of fascism. The confrontation of those themes, along with the amazing stroke of Rand's writing, combine to give this book its enduring influence."
